Beast Tamer Season 2 is the anticipated sequel of the popular action-fantasy anime which first premiered in the Winter of 2022.

It has been a year since the first season ended and the viewers are still wondering if it will get a new season or not.

So here’s everything we know so far regarding whether or not Beast Tamer Season 2 will happen in 2023, as well as the likely release date.

The Japanese anime Beast Tamer also known as “Yuusha Party wo Tsuihou Sareta Beast Tamer, Saikyoushu no Nekomimi Shoujo to Deau” in Japanese is an adaptation of the light novel series written by Suzu Miyama and illustrated by Hotosoka.

The story follows Rein, a beast tamer who is kicked out of the hero’s party for being too weak. Later Rein rescues Kanade, a member of the cat tribe who becomes his companion. Together they set on a journey to befriend and tame other girls from different races

Studio EMT Squared animated the anime’s first season, officially running for 13 episodes from October 2, 2022, to December 24, 2022, on various local networks in Japan.

Crunchyroll streamed the anime outside of Japan with both sub and dub, and it received a positive reception from viewers and critics alike. Many praised it for its fresh take on the kicked out of hero’s party troupe and loved the way it balanced its action, humour and emotional moments.

Overall it was considered a hit among the harem and fantasy fans.

Beast Tamer Season 2 Release Date and Countdown

As of May 2023, Beast Tamer Season 2 doesn’t have a release date as it is not confirmed yet. However, if a new season is confirmed, it is likely to air sometime in mid-2024, or possibly in late-2024.

This is cause the second season premiered from October 2022 to December 2022 and it typically takes around 1-2 years to produce a new season.

As of now, no official announcements have been made yet, hence the readers need to keep in mind that these are just speculations.

But, keep an eye out for this space as we will update it as soon as something official is announced. We can expect the announcement in the next few months.

Countdown

Will there be a Beast Tamer Season 2?

As of writing, Studio EMT Squared, the publisher Kodansha, or any other member of the production committee has not officially renewed the anime for a second season.

A lot of anime manage to get a new season right after the season finale but unfortunately, Yuusha Party wo Tsuihou Sareta Beast Tamer, Saikyoushu no Nekomimi Shoujo to Deau wasn’t one of them.

Beast Tamer Season 2Yet to be announced

Production Studios consider various financial and commercial metrics before announcing a renewal and it is possible to speculate whether an anime will get a new season or not by carefully evaluating these three factors:

  • Availability of source material
  • Sales
  • Popularity

We have used the same method for Eminence in Shadow, Takagi-san, Call of the Night Season 2 and World Trigger and so far it has proven to work.

So now we will examine these factors to see if Beast Tamer anime will get a sequel or not.

Beast Tamer is a direct adaptation of the light novel series penned by Suzu Miyama with illustrations drawn by Hotosoka.

It started publication online as a web novel in June 2018 on the user-generated novel publishing website Shosetsuka ni Naro (Let’s Become Novelist) and was later acquired by Kodansha who published the series in physical form.

The first volume of the light novel was released on May 2, 2019, and the latest issue come out on July 1, 2022.

total of 8 volumes have been released so far, and the light novel is still ongoing.

The first season of the anime covered 2 volumes out of 8, leaving us behind with 6 volumes which is more than enough to create not one but two more anime seasons.

This is a good sign cause this shows that the production committee considers “Beast Tamer” as a long-term investment by adapting only three volumes over 12 episodes and maintaining a perfect pace, much like what “Eminence in Shadow” did.

Rather than just treating it as just a promotional tool for the novel and trying to adapt as much as they can, resulting in an uneven story build-up, lack of character development, and inconsistent pacing, as seen in the “Genius Prince” or “Orient” anime.

Conclusion: Currently, there are 6 volumes of source material available to adapt, which is good news since the series has more than enough material for Studio EMT Squared to start working on a new season right away.

Moreover, the series is still ongoing with a consistent release of new volumes, so that’s a big plus for getting a sequel.

Manga Sales and Profitability

Beast Tamer Anime Sales and Profit explained

Before we proceed, it’s important to understand that most of the anime we watch today are created primarily to promote and boost the sales of its source material (in this case manga).

Sales from the manga and related merchandise are the main source of income for the producers, while revenue from advertising fees, online streaming licensing, and Blu-ray sales are considered secondary

Typically, a 12-episode anime television series costs around $3,000,000 to produce.

Therefore, an anime has to make back this much money through merchandise sales and licensing fees to ensure a new season from the producers.

As of June 2022, Beast Tamer had reached a circulation count of 1.5 Million copies across 18 volumes.

However, do note that this count is from before the anime aired and has not been updated for 11 months now and doesn’t account for the boost it received from the anime adaptation.

Anime adaptations have been known to have a significant impact on the sales and popularity of their source material. This was demonstrated by the success of “How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom,” which saw a near-doubling of its sales within six months of its anime premiere and Ao Ashi and Isekai Ojisan saw a similar increment

Conclusion: typically, a light novel with 500,000 to 1,000,000 copies in circulation is considered successful, so the series is performing just average in that regard.

Moreover, as we mentioned earlier, the above count hasn’t been updated for over eleven months now and does not include the boost in sales that the series received from the anime adaptation so there is a chance that the count might have crossed 2.5 million circulation count by now.

Blu-ray/ DVDs and other Merchandise sales

While Blu-rays and DVDs are no longer key players in determining anime success as they used to be back in the 2010s, they are still a great tool to understand a show’s popularity among the general Japanese audience. In general, if an anime’s disc sales are over 3,000, a second season would be promising.

As for Beast Tamer, the situation doesn’t look very promising.

The first Blu-ray/DVD volume of Beast Tamer only managed to sell a meagre 578 copies. The subsequent three volumes failed to even make it to the sales chart, implying that they sold even less, which brings the estimated total to a mere 1800 copies.

This number is considered to be quite low even by today’s standards.

However, it’s important to note that Blu-ray sales are no longer the only measure of a show’s success, as streaming fees have become a more significant factor in the industry.

Conclusion: Based on the sales numbers, it appears that Beast Tamer anime failed to make a profit for its producers through its home video release, which is not a promising sign for the show’s future.

However, it is possible that the show managed to recoup its production costs through licensing fees and merchandise sales, so there may still be hope for its continuation.

Popularity in Japan and the West

Beast Tamer light novel was already quite popular in Japan prior to the anime’s release, and its popularity has surged even further since then as evidenced by its impressive 1.5 million circulation count.

The series initially started off as a web novel, but with its increasing popularity, it was acquired by the largest manga publisher in Japan, Kodansha. With even more popularity, it was adapted into a manga by Moto Shigemura in January 2019, and its sales are doing well too.

  • The initial volume sold 48,787 units and remained on the top-selling chart for 4 consecutive weeks.
  • The second volume sold 56,429 copies, while the third volume sold 64,024 copies and stayed on top for 5 weeks.
  • The fourth volume saw another increase in sales, reaching 77,979 copies sold, and the fifth volume was the bestseller with 84,209 copies sold, staying on top for 7 weeks.

The anime’s debut in Japan was highly anticipated, and it quickly became one of the most-watched shows of the Winter 2022 season. It ranked top on several streaming websites, including the D-Anime Store and AbemaTV and was one of the most-talked shows on the internet.

On NicoVideo, Japan’s largest hosting site which is their version of YouTube, the premiere episode received over 115k views and 11k comments.

Overseas popularity

The debut run of the Yuusha Party wo Tsuihou Sareta Beast Tamer, Saikyoushu no Nekomimi Shoujo to Deau anime received a positive reception from fans in the West, with many viewers and critics praising it for being even better than the source material in some aspects.

The series has garnered positive reviews from viewers around the world, earning a decent score of 6.9 on MyAnimeList and ranking at #1382 in popularity, with more than 155k members in its MAL group.

It has also received a decent score of 6.7/10 on IMDb and a 69% approval rating on AniList. This shows that the show’s popularity is very high even though it is a young series.

In conclusion, the series gained a significant following in both Japan and the West and generated a ton of revenue from merchandise sales, indicating that it has a strong and loyal fanbase.

With enough source material and the potential to make even more sales, it is inevitable that Beast Tamer Season 2 will be announced soon. It is no longer a question of if it will get a new season, but when it will get a new season.

What will happen in season 2?

Since the first season covered three volumes, the next season of Beast Tamer will begin with volume 3 of the light novel.

Final Words !!

In summary, there is a good chance that Beast Tamer Season 2 will happen. If that is the case, we should hear some news about it this year. But don’t expect the release date for the second season to be before 2023 since it takes time for a new season to be animated.
