Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric are the infamous duo of the FMA Series. Now considering that we have 2 versions of FMA Series, the first being the original FMA and second a remastered version called FMA Brotherhood, certain scenes in both versions that lead us to believe Alchemists regaining their powers seems to be unlikely.
On a detailed analysis of the last few key episodes, I realized that the creator of FMA series; Hiromu Arakawa never seem to be in favor of “restricted story line” or “restricted character development“. She, in all of her works, she leaves hint for significant level of suspense that emerges in rather subtle way and it has that piercing-effect. Having said all this, let me get down to the fun and detailed section of this post.
Discussing the major suspenseful scenes of ‘Fullmetal Alchemist Series’ (FMA) with touch of subtle “happy-ending” as I mentioned earlier but still leaves us with a piercing question in our mind that although makes us somewhat satisfied with the ending but still craving for more of the same. Since there are 2 versions of FMA Series i.e. Fullmetal Alchemist (Original Anime, 2003) and sequel version dubbed as Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (FMA:B, Remastered Anime, 2009), I shall cover both in this post.
A. Fullmetal Alchemist (The Original)
Here we see that Edward Elric after getting his brother’s body back to normal and complete, he gets sucked into the Portal of Truth to an alternate dimension (our world to be precise), where he is reunited with his father. While a fearsome war is waging (its the 1st World War with the Zeppelins, who am I kidding here) after the storm comes the calm. The entire concept of this “new” universe is similar to our world history.
Moving on, we can for sure say that Edward Elric in his current state of existence will never be able to return to his “own” world as his current universe studies the application of Modern Sciences rather than Ancient and lost sciences like Alchemy or rather Alkahestry.
Meanwhile, his brother Alphonse Elric, who is still in their “homeland Amestris” (subsequently in another mirrored universe) is seen to be determined to pursue the mysteries of Alkahestry himself and get his brother back. So we can put certain assumptions in place and state that Alphonse Elric will be able accomplish his quest to find his brother.
The Philosopher’s Stone existence is still a thing so that option will always be available to him as its still known to most military soldiers involved in “Ishvalan Civil War” i.e.”Ishvalan War of Extermination” to the military R&D facilitators and other Alchemy military researchers’.
Another instance that played a more important part in carrying out the story line was the character development of Homunculus named “Wraith” in the original series. Wraith was the second homunculus associated with Edward Elric as his right arm when lost to the Portal of Truth was taken/absorbed by the “secrets” of the portal that led to the creation of a new homunculus.
If you think hard about it for a moment, you will find that the next picture will please your eyes even more. How do you imagine Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric being together in this “New World” together. Maybe there emerges a way for both to connect through each other’s present realities now.
Here we look at the possibility of Edward Elric coming to terms with his situation in this new world. This picture aint bad at all but I leave the imagination and other formalities to all of you while I move on to the other section.
B. Full-metal Alchemist Brotherhood (Remastered version)
In this remastered version after a gruesome and epic fight with “father” both the fighting brother duo of Edward Elric (titled as the Full-metal Alchemist) and Alphonse Elric win. While Alphonse Elric gets his body back, when Edward Elric sacrifices his Gate of Alchemy or his own Gate of Truth to return Alphonse his body.
The possibility of Edward Elric getting his Alchemy Powers back is a significant possibility but if, I were to take a position, he needs to re-obtain all the knowledge he gave away to the “Portal Keeper” or the “depicted incarnation of God” (looks like a small floating ball of mass with a gigantic creepy eyeball) once again from the very start and undergo all the training he went through to re-experience the meaning of “One for All and All for One”.
Frankly speaking it is still possible that while Edward Elric goes through the traumatic training to master and relearn Alchemy, Alphonse Elric goes in the search to get his brother’s Alchemy power back maybe this time to other nations like Drachma (it gives me Russian vibes, I dont know why) or something like Cresta (sounds French to me) in the near future.
Hence, they are not only able to uncover more secrets but may also know more about all the mysteries fate has lined up along the way of these 2 brother’ in their quest of each other and the unknown conflict of interests awaiting them on their journey.
When all of this ends maybe, finally one day they can all just you know, enjoy a cup of tea together like a family “AGAIN” (get the Pun)……
Anyways this is my overall analysis of the FMA Series and first post on this Website. I hope that everyone likes its contents. meanwhile, I’ll keep the juicy and mystery material question-answers for Anime rolling/publishing once every 2 days. Stay safe and continue watching anime.
