Erased (Review): An illusion of what you could have been

Published

It was a week before prom. There was a gentle breeze as the sun was about to set over the horizon. You open the door to the roof. There she is leaning on the railing staring at the sunset. Her silky hair sways in the air as the beautiful pink sky reflects off her face. She had never seemed more desirable. You take a step towards her cautiously. Your hearts start thumping against your chest, your palms start sweating, and your mind is racing. With one deep breath you open your mouth…..

THEN THE ALARM GOES OFF.

Admit it we have all been through this situation in our dreams. There are some lucky ones who got to experience this in real life and hopefully did not wimp out at the last second because they were too scared. Trust me if someone did wimp out, they think about this every single day and wish they could go back.

If you had the opportunity to go back in time and change your decisions would you take it? We all want to go to the past to change one or multiple such decisions. We all have a what if nagging us at the back of our minds. Now if you are sitting there like NO, I don’t want to go back I’m happy with my decisions and do not have any regrets more power to you. Sadly, this is not the case for the majority.

“Every day, the words cross my mind. “If I had done this back then…” but they don’t take the sincere form of regret. The words are just an excuse that come to my mind then disappear.” – Satoru Fujinuma

We all think about the “what ifs” in life what if you took that job offer? What if you took that final step? What if you grabbed that opportunity? but is there a point in doing this? Whatever happened is in the past it’s not under out control. What we can control right now is the present and in turn the future. Use your experiences, your regrets, and your dreams to make sure that you make the right decisions going forward in life. Make sure that you don’t add to your list of regrets.

Whenever you are making a decision think about what’s best for YOU, What YOU want to achieve and make a decision that YOU can stand behind without having any regrets even if the decision turns out to be the wrong one. Don’t be the guy on the rooftop who wimped out and regrets it for the rest of his life. Don’t set yourself up to think back to and regret that decision because guess what you only get one shot at life, don’t waste it on regrets instead live it to the fullest with your own decisions.

Summary

Erased depicts a gripping story in which the protagonist gets to right his wrongs in the past and change the direction of his future. I assumed this story was slice of life at first, but it turned to be a mystery thriller which hooked me to the fullest extent. I ended up watching the whole show in a day. Not only is the crime thriller part exciting, but there is also a cute and adorable relationship that forms for Satoru who like the guy above wimped out in the past but did not miss out the second time around.

There are rumors in the air about a possible second season but currently I am satisfied with the shows ending and do not need a second season. This does not mean that I would not watch a second season if they make one. I will keep you updated on any news below this post.

You can currently watch this show on, Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll and Funimation.
