Osamake Season 2: Release Date, Plot, Trailer, Renewal Status and Everything Else We Know So Far

Published

Osamake Season 2 is one of the most anticipated anime sequels. Fans are getting desperate to see its second season, especially after hearing the rumour about its renewal. It has only been months since the completion of the anime’s first season, but there is already a great demand for the following instalment. So, when will the series return with another set of adventures? Here is everything to know.

Osamake: Romcom Where The Childhood Friend Won’t Lose or also known as Osananajimi ga Zettai ni Makenai Love Comedy is romantic-comedy anime which aired in the Spring of 2021. The anime is based on the novels written by Shūichi Nimaru. It was created by Studio Doga Kobo, a popular studio known for their moe-styled, slice of life anime.  The anime aired from April 14 to June 30, 2021, on the various local network such as AT-X, Tokyo MX and BS-11 and was licensed by Crunchyroll for the English release. Ever since then, its fans are waiting for the renewal of Osamake Season 2.

Will there be a second season of Osamake?

As of writing, Studio Doga Kobo, publisher Kadokawa or any other member of the production committee has not yet renewed the anime for a second season. Anime sometimes can take years to get renewed for a new season. However, it is possible to evaluate that it will whether have a new season under some main factors. These factors are:

  • Availability of source material
  • Sales
  • Popularity

Let’s have a look:

Is there enough material available for “A Romantic Comedy Where the Childhood Friend Absolutely Will Not Lose” season 2?

The original light novel written by Shūichi Nimaru and illustrated by Ui Shigure is published in Media Factory’s Dengeki Bunko imprint and is still ongoing. It started serialization in June 2019 and so far 8 compiled volumes have been released. The first season of anime adapted the first 4 volumes which means there are still 4 volumes of content available to adapt.

This is good news since Studio Doga Kobo has enough content to create another 12-episode season.

Light Novel Sales

Before moving ahead you will need to understand that most of the anime today created are mostly produced to promote and boost the sales of its source material (in this case a light novel). Sales generated through the sales of the light novel and merch are their main source of income and the rest is treated as a side income in the form of advertiser fees, online streaming licencing, and Blu-ray.

Generally, a 12-episode anime television series usually takes about $ 3,000,000 to produce.

As of October 2020, the series has reached 500,000 copies in circulation including the light novel, manga adaptation and the spin-off.

On average 200,000 – 400,000 is confirmed good so it is doing well enough in that regard.

The Blu-ray/DVD is still to went to on sale but seeing the hype and pre-orders the number will easily reach 3k in short while.

Popularity in Japan and West

Osamake is quite popular in Japan. The series ranked 5th in Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! annual light novel guide book 2020 which is the highest honour a novel can ever get in Japan.

The anime’s premiere in Spring 2021 provided a huge boost to book sales. By May 2021, Osamake was consistently in the top 10 for weekly light novel sales in Japan according to Oricon. In May 2021 the series was ranked #6 in Oricon’s Top Selling Light Novel Chart with over 28,700 copies right behind big sellers including 86: Eighty-Six, Sword Art Online: Progressive. The series continued to dominate the charts till September 2021.

The debut run was very well received Osananajimi ga Zettai ni Makenai Rabu Kome by the critics and the viewers. They praised this show for being even better than its source material at some points. Besides, the series received positive reviews from viewers all around the world and hence managed to get a good score of 6.1 on MyAnimeList. It has more than 72k members in its MAL group is ranked at #8029 in popularity.

In conclusion, the series is quite popular in Japan and the West. Moreover, there is enough source material available currently and the series has made tons of money from merch sales, so it won’t take a long time to get a new season.
