Redo of Healer Season 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to its previous seasons. Here is everything we know about the second season of this popular slice of life anime.
Redo of Healer (also known as Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi in Japan) is a dark fantasy anime series created by TNK. It is based on the novel penned by Rui Tsukiyo which follows the Hero Keyaru, who is continuously exploited and sexually abused repeatedly by others due to his healing powers. However, by the time he realizes his own potential, he is already deprived of everything. Thus, he uses healing magic on the world itself to go back four years into the past, deciding to redo everything and get revenge on the ones who abused him.
Its first season concluded in March 2021 and since then fans have been wondering whether the anime will return for season 2.
In case of anime the possibility of a sequel mainly depends of three factors which are:
- Availability of source material
Now I will present the information that I examined in 3 short sections and tell you if you should expect that Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi Season 2 will get announced in 2021.
Let’s start with an in-depth examination of the source material.
- Is there enough material available for Redo of Healer Season 2?
- Sales and Popularity
- Redo of Healer Blu-ray Sales
- Popularity of the series in Japan and in west
- Light Novel
- Social Media
- So will There Be Redo of Healer Season 2?
- Redo of Healer Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?
- What to expect from season 2?
Is there enough material available for Redo of Healer Season 2?
Today most of the anime are adapted from the already existing source material in the form of manga, light novel, games and such.
In the case of Redo of Healer, the source material is light novel. Now we have to check how many volumes are currently available and how many of them have been adapted in the previous season and if the series is still ongoing.
Currently, there are nine light novel volumes of Redo of Healer released in Japan. The light novel series by Rui Tsukiyo is still ongoing and a new volume is released every 6 months on average with the last one released on December 26, 2020. The active release of the novel is good news for the anime series. Moreover, there is also a manga adaptation by Soken Haga which is currently running in Kadokawa’s Young Ace magazine since October 2017.
The first season of Redo of Healer anime only covered the first four volumes leaving behind 5 volumes worth of content.
Conclusion: Currently 5 volumes are left to be adapted, so there is currently enough source material available for another one-cour season. The series is still ongoing, so that’s a big plus for a sequel chance as well.
Sales and Popularity
In this section, we will see if the anime was even profitable for the production committee or failed to even make-up the production costs. For this, we will analyse its Blu-ray, DVD sale and light novel sales.
Before moving ahead you will need to understand that most of the anime today created are mostly produced to promote and boost the sales of its source material (in this case a light novel). Sales generated through the sales of the light novel and merch are their main source of income and the rest is treated as a side income in the form of advertiser fees, online streaming licencing, and Blu-ray.
Generally a 12-epsiode anime television series like usually takes about $ 3,000,000 to produce.
As of the latest Redo of Healer has 1.0 million copies in circulation. Since the airing of the anime, both the light novel and the manga grew in their popularity, leading to an increase in digital sales. Also since January, all the 9 volumes of the manga have received reprints multiple times. Several volumes of the manga also ranked in the top ten of Amazon Japan’s manga charts.
All volumes except the last one received another new edition! Not the first time this has happened, but we didn’t expect it to happen again anytime soon! Several volumes have sold out since the anime started, but we even sold the extra copies and now the manga is back to the reprint! They told me digital sales are also doing very well and I look forward to sharing with you the accumulated number of copies sold. Thank you for your support, I will continue to do my best with both the novel and the two adaptations!“, Tsukiyo proudly wrote on her Twitter.
On average a light novel usually has 600,000 to 800,000 copies in circulation, so it is certainly doing impressive in terms of light novel sales.
Redo of Healer Blu-ray Sales
Disc sales are an important criterion for anime creators to earn financial income. In general, if an anime’s disc sales are over 5,000, a second season would be pretty promising.
In the case of Redo of Healer, the Blu-ray DVD sales are looking quite optimistic. As reported by animesweet, the first Blu-ray volume of Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi sold a total of 3015 copies. The package was released in Japan on March 24th and contains episodes 1 through 4 of the adaptation. Following it, the second Blu-ray/DVD volume sold 2,376 Blu-ray and 389 DVD Out of 2765 copies within a week of its release.
A total of 5k units sold with only two volumes released is quite impressive, considering there is also growing streaming and merch money coming from domestic and overseas companies like HiDive, BiliBli, in 2021.
Conclusion: the series certainly has made a lot of money since the anime has debuted, so profitability shouldn’t stand in the way of a sequel either. And I don’t see Kadokawa and the production committee of Redo of Healer Season 2 losing money unless the popularity drops for the franchise.
Popularity of the series in Japan and in west
In this section, we will take a look at how popular this series is and how much the anime boosted the popularity. To do that, we will look at its official social media handles, MyAnimeList and other rankings, and how successful light novel is.
The Redo of Healer light novel was already quite popular in Japan and its popularity has surged after the anime aired. In November, before anime aired, the series had over 800,000 copies in print. The numbers now have increased to 1,200,000. In addition to that several volumes of the manga also ranked in the top ten of Amazon Japan’s manga charts in January.
Their official Twitter handle has about 20.4k followers and is regularly updated from time to time. This directly shows how popular the series in Japan who are the demographically targeted audience for its light novel and Blu-rays sales and accounts for almost 50% of revenue generated. Also in comparison, I am Standing on One Million Lives twitter handle has over 29k followers and have already announced a season 2.
On MyAnimeList, Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi is ranked at #6872 with a rating of 6.31 with about 142k members. Meanwhile, on IMBD the series had received a rating of 6.1. The ratings are quite average but are still impressive if you take into account the controversial content it showed. Meanwhile, in Japan, the series was one the most watched anime of the Winter 2021 season ranking top on multiple streaming websites such as the D-Anime Store, AbemaTv. On NicoVideo, Japan’s own YouTube and the biggest hosting site, episode 1 received a total of 172k views with 11k comments.
Conclusion: the series is fairly popular in both Japan and overseas so it won’t have any problem getting a second season.
So will There Be Redo of Healer Season 2?
No official announcement for the second season has been made as of now, but, taking into account how popular the entire series has become after the anime aired, I think Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi Season 2 has an excellent chance of getting announced.
There is enough source material available currently and the series has made tons of money from merch sales. If you ask why it is taking so long for a sequel, it’s probably because anime studios are busy these days, including studio TNK, where they are booked upto next 2-3 years. So even If the production committee did green-light a sequel in 2021 after the anime success, it would take a few years to announce next season.
Redo of Healer Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?
Redo of Healer is yet to be officially renewed for season 2, but if it does get a new season, then it most likely will air in late 2022 since the season 1 aired from January 13 to March 31, 2021, and it usually takes around 1-2 years to create a new season.
As of now, no official announcements have been made yet, hence the readers need to keep in mind that these are just speculations. But, keep an eye out for this space as we will update it as soon as something official is announced. We can expect the announcement in the next few months.
What to expect from season 2?
The next season will begin with adapting the fifth volume where Keyaru introduces to his companions a brainwashed Norn Clatalissa Jioral (this fact and her identity is unbeknownst to them) as Ellen, his intimate younger sister.
As a scuffle ignites between Setsuna and Ellen, Keyaru reflects that he gave her a characteristic where she loves her, but it ended up escalating to an extreme after mixing with her past qualities. Soldiers would also be arriving once news of Norn’s defeat reaches the Jioral Kingdom, and the unknown whereabouts of Brett make Keyaru uncertain of how to proceed. Watching an interaction between Freya and Ellen causes Keyaru to reminisce on how happier his life has been with his companions. However, he dismisses the notion as a mere illusion upon realizing he still has to vengeance on Brett and the king.
Now with a plan in mind, Keyaru announces the group will defeat the demon lord and retrieve the Philosopher’s Stone that is his heart. He tells them that they need the power of the divine bird Caladorius, whose nest is located near a black-winged tribal village on a mountain west from Buranikka. To ease Eve Reese’s doubts, Keyaru assures her they would be doing this for the sake of world peace. The group sets off and soon find themselves at their destination.
I hope this article helped you understand what are the chances that we will get a Redo of Healer Season 2.
