Shinobi no Ittoki Season 2 is the anticipated sequel of the popular action, romance anime which first premiered in the Fall of 2022. It has been a year since the first season ended and the viewers are still wondering if it will get a new season or not.

So here’s everything we know so far regarding whether or not Shinobi no Ittoki Season 2 will happen in 2023, as well as the likely release date.

The Japanese anime Shinobi no Ittoki is an original production by DMM Pictures and animated by Studio Troyca, the well-known animation studio established by Ei Aoki, who has directed two other popular original anime, Aldnoah.Zero and Re:CREATORS, under this studio.

The story follows Ittoki Sakuraba who was living a very normal life until one day an assassination attempt is made on him and he finds out he is the descendant of and rightful heir to the Iga Ninja clan. Ninjutsu Gakuen, the only national ninja school in Japan, to study and train as a ninja while investigations are being made to discover who is trying to kill him.

The series officially ran for 12 episodes from October 4, 2022, to December 20, 2022, on various local networks in Japan.

Crunchyroll streamed the anime outside of Japan with both sub and dub, and it received a positive reception from viewers and critics alike. Many are praised for well-written storylines, character dynamics and unexpected plot twists.

Shinobi no Ittoki Season 2 Release Date and Countdown

Shinobi no Ittoki Season 2 Release Date and Countdown

As of May 2023, Shinobi no Ittoki Season 2 doesn’t have a release date as it is not confirmed yet. However, if a new season is confirmed, it will likely air sometime in mid-2024 or late-2024.

This is cause the first season premiered from October 2022 to December 2022 and it typically takes around 1-2 years to produce a new season.

As of now, no official announcements have been made yet, hence the readers need to keep in mind that these are just speculations.

But, keep an eye out for this space as we will update it as soon as something official is announced. We can expect the announcement in the next few months.

Shinobi no Ittoki Season 2 Countdown:

Based on the following information, here is the countdown to the premiere of Engage Kiss’s second season.

Shinobi no Ittoki Season 2 Renewal Status: Confirmed or Cancelled

As of writing, Studio Troyca, the producer DMM Pictures, or any other member of the production committee member has not officially renewed the anime for a second season.

A lot of anime manage to get a new season right after the season finale but unfortunately, Shinobi no Ittoki wasn’t one of them.

Production Studios consider various financial and commercial metrics before announcing a renewal and it is possible to speculate whether an anime will get a new season or not by carefully evaluating these three factors:

  • Availability of source material
  • Sales
  • Popularity

I have used the same method for Eminence in Shadow, Takagi-san and World Trigger and so far it has proven to work.

So now we will examine these factors to see if Shinobi no Ittoki anime will get a sequel or not.

Is there enough source material available for Shinobi no Ittoki Season 2?

Shinobi no IttokI Season 2 Source Material status: fortunately source material should not be a problem
Shinobi no IttokI Season 2 Source Material status: fortunately source material should not be a problem

There are two main types of anime when it comes to source material: those based on existing material like manga, light novels or video games, and those that are completely original. Code Geass, Darling in the Franxx, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Kill la Kill, FLCL, and Cowboy Bebop are popular examples of original anime.

One of the key advantages of producing original anime is that it doesn’t rely on the availability of source material in order to continue. If an original anime can generate enough profit, it can easily be greenlit for a second season, as long as the staff members are willing to return.

Recent examples of successful original anime include Lycoris Recoil and SK8 the Infinity, which were renewed for a sequel project after a successful run.

Original anime projects also provide creators with enough flexibility to bring back series that had concluded, such as Code Geass which is getting a new anime sequel despite its original controversial ending (which was changed in the alternative reality movie Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection) and the Rebuild of Evangelion which brings back our favourite depressed and traumatized characters from the original series with a new teenage pilot and more christen etymology.

In conclusion with Original anime, you don’t have to worry about source material which is good news for the fans of Shinobi no Ittoki.

The game was announced on April 24, 2022, and released in Japan on March 1, 2023, so the Engage Kiss team has plenty of options to explore.

Conclusion: Lack of source material shouldn’t be a problem for the series. Now we can only hope that the anime managed to make its money back.

If it has, chances are high that it will be renewed in the next year or so. Let’s see how the series is performing in terms of profitability.

Sales and Profitability

Shinobi no IttokI anime sales and profit

Before we proceed, it’s important to understand that most of the anime we watch today are created primarily to promote and boost the sales of its source material. However, since Shinobi no Ittoki doesn’t have any sort of source material to promote, the success of the anime will be totally depended on the Blu-ray sales and revenue from licensing.

So let’s take a look at Blu-ray sales.

While Blu-rays and DVDs are no longer key players in determining anime success as they used to be back in the 2010s, they are still a great tool to understand a show’s popularity among the general Japanese audience. In general, if an anime’s disc sales are over 3,000, a second season would be promising.

As for Shinobi no Ittoki, the situation doesn’t look good.

The sales numbers for the first Blu-ray/DVD volume of Shinobi no Ittoki were so low that it failed to even make it to Oricon’s Top 20 general category, selling below 200 copies.

However, it’s important to note that Blu-ray sales are no longer the only measure of a show’s success, as streaming fees have become a more significant factor in the industry.

Conclusion: Based on the sales numbers, it appears that the Shinobi no Ittoki anime failed to generate a profit for its producers through the home video release, which is not a promising sign for the show’s future.

However, it is possible that the show managed to recoup its production costs through licensing fees and merchandise sales, so there may still be hope for its continuation.

Shinobi no Ittoki‘s Popularity in Japan and the West

The anime Shinobi no Ittoki was quite popular in Japan. A lot of fans were drawn in by cool character designs especially Kosetsu‘s

The debut run of the anime also received a positive reception from fans in the West and managed to get a localised English dub too.

The series has garnered positive reviews from viewers around the world, earning a decent score of 6.1 on MyAnimeList and ranking at #1433 in popularity, but with a large following of more than 146k members in its MAL group.

It has also received an average score of 6.1/10 on IMDb and a 60% approval rating on AniList. This shows that the show’s popularity is very high even though it is a young series.

In conclusion, the series failed to live up to the expectations of the producers and failed both commercially and critically with this, it is safe to Shinobi no Ittoki Season 2 won’t be happening any time soon, but we can still hope for a miracle.

Final Words !!

In summary, there is a good chance that Shinobi no Ittoki Season 2 will happen. If that is the case, we should hear some news about it this year. But don’t expect the release date for the second season to be before 2024 since it takes time for a new season to be animated.

I will update the article next month if something has changed. In the meantime so you can check the same analysis I have done for other series:
