Anime is a medium which for years has been used for bringing new life to various genres and sports is no stranger to it. Whether it be thrilling action packed shows such as Kuroko no Basket, Haikyu or Hajame no Ippo or a simple story told through a sport such Run with the Wind, Yuri on Ice. And latest to join this list of sports anime is SK8 The Infinity, an original anime based on skateboarding.

On Sunday, Aniplex announced the “SK8 The Infinity” (SK8∞) anime along which they released a teaser visual and promo which you can check out from below.
The above visual features Reki and Langa, the show’s lead.
The anime centers on Reki, a second-year high school student who loves skateboarding, and gets caught up in “S,” an underground and dangerous skateboard race at an abandoned mine with no rules. Ranga, who has returned to Japan from Canada and has never skateboarded before, also gets wrapped up in S along with Reki. Dirty racers, AI racers, and other unique individuals compete in the “youth skateboard race battle.”
A specific release date still hasn’t been decided yet but it has confirmed that it will premiere in January 2021.
The series is headed by Hiroko Utsumi who in the past has directed two popular BL anime, which are Free! at Kytoto Animation and Banana Fish at Studio Mappa. Besides that Ichirou Ookouchi is the series composer and Michinori Chiba is designing the characters. Meanwhile Ryo Takahashi is composing the music. Studio Bones is animating the series.
