Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 4 is one of the most anticipated anime sequels. Fans are getting desperate to see its second season, especially after hearing the rumour about its renewal.

It has only been months since the completion of the anime’s first season, but there is already a great demand for the following instalment. So, when will the series return with another set of adventures? Here is everything to know.

The Japanese anime Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun also known as “Mairimashita! Iruma-kun” in Japanese is an adaptation of the manga series written and illustrated by Osamu Nishi.

The story follows Iruma Suzuki, a 14-year-old human boy who is sold to a demon by his lazy, selfish and neglectful parents, The demon enrols him into a Demon School and warns him to never reveal his identity or he will be eaten alive.

Bandai Namco Pictures animated the anime’s first season, officially running for 23 episodes from October 5, 2019, to March 7, 2020, on various local networks in Japan followed by a second season airing from January April 17, 2021, to September 11, 2021, for 21 episodes. The production of a third season was announced on September 11, 2021, which ran for 21 episodes and aired from October 8, 2022, to March 4, 2023.

Crunchyroll streamed the anime outside of Japan with both sub and dub, and it received a positive reception from viewers and critics alike. Many praise it for its amazing characterization and detailed story writing. By providing the right amount of time and attention to each character, the author ensures that they all contribute meaningfully to the overarching story, resulting in a rich and multi-layered narrative.

Iruma and the friends

As of May 2023, Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 4 doesn’t have a release date as it is not confirmed yet. However, if a new season is confirmed, it is likely to air sometime in mid-2025, or possibly in late-2025.

This is cause the second season premiered from October 2022 to March 2022 and it typically takes around 1-2 years to produce a new season.

As of now, no official announcements have been made yet, hence the readers need to keep in mind that these are just speculations.

But, keep an eye out for this space as we will update it as soon as something official is announced. We can expect the announcement in the next few months.

Based on the following information, here is the countdown to the premiere of Mairimashita! Iruma-kun’s second season.

Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 4 Renewal Status: Confirmed or Cancelled

As of writing, Studio Bandai Namco Pictures, the publisher Akita Shoten, or any other company related to the production of the anime has not officially renewed the anime for a fourth season.

A lot of anime manage to get a new season right after the season finale but unfortunately, Mairimashita! Iruma-kun wasn’t one of them.

Production Studios consider various financial and commercial metrics before announcing a renewal and it is possible to speculate whether an anime will get a new season or not by carefully evaluating these three factors:

  • Availability of source material
  • Sales
  • Popularity

I have used the same method for Eminence in Shadow, Takagi-san and World Trigger and so far it has proven to work.

So now we will examine these factors to see if “Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun” anime will get a sequel or not?

Is there enough source material available for Mairimashita! Iruma-kun Season 4?

Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun anime is based on the manga series created by Osamu Nishi.

It started serialization in Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shonen Champion magazine in March 2017

The first volume of the manga was released on July 7, 2017, and the latest issue came out on March 8, 2023. The next issue is set to release on June 8, 2023.

A total of 31 volumes have been released so far, and the manga is still ongoing.

The first three seasons of the anime only covered the first 17 volumes, leaving behind 14 volumes worth of content to adapt which is plentiful to create not only one but two more anime seasons.

This is great news for the fans of the series as the producers and studio are taking their time to faithfully adapt the anime, aiming to deliver the highest quality with a captivating story and well-paced development. This is a similar approach to anime like Ascendance of a Bookworm, Ao Ashi, and Shadows House and they all turned out to be quite popular.

In contrast, series such as Orient, Genius Prince, and The Promised Neverland tried to cover as much source material as they can in one anime season, resulting in adaptations lacking sufficient characterization, development, and build-up.

The team’s approach with Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun shows their commitment to the series as a long-term project, ensuring that there is always material for future seasons.

Conclusion: Currently, there are 14 volumes of source material available to adapt, which is good news since the series has more than enough material for Studio Bandai Namco Pictures to start working on a new season right away.

Moreover, the series is still ongoing with a consistent release of new volumes, so that’s a big plus for getting a sequel.

Mairimashita! Iruma-kun Manga Sales and Profitability

Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Sales and Profit Status: the anime has helped boost the sales and generate large profits
Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Sales and Profit Status: the anime has helped boost sales and generate large profits

Before we proceed, it’s important to understand that most of the anime we watch today are created primarily to promote and boost the sales of its source material (in this case manga).

Sales from the manga and related merchandise are the main source of income for the producers, while revenue from advertising fees, online streaming licensing, and Blu-ray sales are considered secondary

Typically, a 12-episode anime television series costs around $3,000,000 to produce.

Therefore, an anime has to make back this much money through merchandise sales and licensing fees to ensure a new season from the producers.

As of February 2023, Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun had reached a total circulation count of 12 million copies including the spin-off manga “Makai no shuyaku wa wareware da!”.

The anime has had a significant impact on the sales of the series, resulting in a major boost. In September 2020, three months after the conclusion of the first season, the series had a total circulation of 4.5 million copies. By November, it had reached 5 million, a remarkable increase of 500k in just 2 months.

After the second season concluded in November 2021, the new count had touched 7.5 million. With the announcement of the third season in July 2022, the count had further soared to 10 million, representing another giant jump of 2.5 million copies sold within a span of less than a year.

As of the latest update, the series has now reached 12 million copies sold, solidifying its position as one of the best-selling manga titles for Akita Soten, with an impressive volume-on-volume growth rate.

Conclusion: typically, a shonen manga with 500,000 to 2,000,000 copies in circulation is considered successful, so Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun manga is performing remarkably well with these sales numbers.

Moreover, the anime has proven itself to be successful in increasing its sales, making it even more likely for the series to receive new seasons.

Therefore, it is very likely that the anime production committee will renew Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun for a fourth season. They may even have secretly started the pre-production as they are already aware that the series is guaranteed to make back its money.

Blu-ray/ DVDs and other Merchandise sales

While Blu-rays and DVDs are no longer key players in determining anime success as they used to be back in the 2010s, they are still a great tool to understand a show’s popularity among the general Japanese audience. In general, if an anime’s disc sales are over 3,000, a second season would be promising.

As for, Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun, the situation doesn’t look very promising.

Not one volume of Mairimashita! Iruma-kun Blu-ray or DVD has ever managed to make it to Oricon’s Best Selling charts across three seasons, suggesting that the series has failed significantly in terms of the home video release, and Japanese fans do not find the series collectable enough.

However, it’s important to note that Blu-ray sales are no longer the only measure of a show’s success, as streaming fees have become a more significant factor in the industry.

Conclusion: Based on the sales numbers, it appears that Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun anime failed to make a profit for its producers through its home video release, which is not a promising sign for the show’s future.

However, it is possible that the show managed to recoup its production costs through licensing fees and merchandise sales, so there may still be hope for its continuation.

Popularity in Japan and the West

Mairimashita! Iruma-kun anime is quite popular in both Japan and among rest of the world

Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun manga is one of the most popular shonen manga series in Japan which continues to outsell itself with the release of each new volume.

Manga’s Popularity

The series is one of the best-selling titles for Shogakukan with multiple volumes topping Oricon’s weekly and monthly sales charts and averaging around 100,000 copies sold per volume.

As you can see in the tweet below, the sales of the series are consistently rising with the release of each new volume, showing no indications of decline.

The series was the 22nd Best Selling manga of 2022 with over 1.7 million copies sold over the period between November 2021 to November 2022.

The anime’s debut in Japan was highly anticipated, and it quickly became one of the most-watched shows of the Fall 2022 season. It ranked top on several streaming websites, including the D-Anime Store and AbemaTV and was one of the most-talked shows on the internet.

Successful Spin-off

The series also inspired an extremely popular spinoff titled “Makai no Shuyaku wa Wareware da!” or “We Are the Main Characters of the Demon World!” which contributes 3 million copies to its total circulation of 12 million.

The spinoff began serialization in Weekly Shōnen Champion on January 9, 2020, and has published 13 volumes thus far

It follows Shaoron Teufel, who is an ambitious demon who has enrolled in the demon school known as Babyls, aiming to become popular and join the Student Council.

Additionally, we have two side stories titled “Mairimashita! Iruma-kun: Kalego Gaiden” and “Houkago no! Iruma-kun.”

Overseas popularity

The debut run of the Mairimashita! Iruma-kun anime received a positive reception from fans in the west, with many viewers and critics praising it for being even better than the source material in some aspects.

The series has garnered positive reviews from viewers around the world, earning a solid score of 7.75 on MyAnimeList and ranking at #1460 in popularity, with more than 445k members in its MAL group.

It has also received a strong score of 7.7/10 on IMDb and a 77% approval rating on AniList. This shows that the show’s popularity is very high even though it is a young series.

In conclusion, the series gained a significant following in both Japan and the West and generated a ton of revenue from merchandise sales, indicating that it has a strong and loyal fanbase.

With enough source material and the potential to make even more sales, it is inevitable that Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 4 will be announced soon. It is no longer a question of if it will get a new season, but when it will get a new season.

In the next season will cover “The Music Festival Arc” where with four weeks left until the Music Festival, Azazel Ameri tasks Ronove Lomiere and Ampsey Nafra with reviewing the first-year’s performances. They visit Class A, criticizing their song recital as lame. In Class B, Lomiere finds the play boring and suggests adding twists. In Class C, he mediates between rock and classical music enthusiasts.

Lomiere criticizes their ideas as lame. He encourages passion and originality. Iruma expresses the desire to perform as a team. Kerori proposes the “Hell Dance,” a synchronized Akudol group dance. Final Words !!

In summary, there is a good chance that Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 4 will happen. If that is the case, we should hear some news about it this year. But don’t expect the release date for the second season to be before 2024 since it takes time for a new season to be animated.

I will update the article next month if something has changed. In the meantime so you can check the same analysis I have done for other series:
