Cells at Work! has inspired multiple spin-offs and one of its darkest spin-off Cells at Work! Code Black will be receiving an anime.

The Kodansha’s Morning Magazine issue cover 20 announced that the Cells at Work! Code Black anime is in production. Here is everything we know so far.

Cells at Work! Code Black Release Date

Cells at work Season 2 which was earlier listed for 2021 release will adapt the spin-off. Cells at Work! Code Black release date is scheduled for January 2021.

The exact release date is not yet officially confirmed. But as soon as any official announcement is created, we will be bringing you updates right away.

Cells at Work! Code Black Plot

Cells At Work! Code Black is dark-seinen manga which centers around highly-stressed cells of a unhealthy person. Kodansha USA who is publishing the manga in English describes it as:

There are trillions of cells in the human body, and they all have to work hard to keep that body alive. But what if that body isn’t taking great care of itself? What if that body smokes too much? Or drinks too much?

What if that body forgets to use protection? Why, it might find itself with all manner of dysfunction, and who’s going to have to pick up the pieces? It turns out the same immune cells that fight off the common cold also have to deal with troubles of a distinctly more adult nature…

Studio and Staff

Studio David Production will adapt the new season. Hirofumi Ogura will join the staff as new the director. Yuuko Kakihara is returning as scriptwriter. Takahiko Yoshida and Kenichiro Suehiro are returning for character designing and music composition.

Cells at Work! Theatrical OVA

A theatrical OVA titled “Cells at Work!!” The Return of the Strongest Enemy. A Huge Uproar Inside the Body’s “Bowels!” will premiere in Japanese theatres on September 5.

The OVA episode will adapt the 5th volume from original manga. The first season which aired July 8 to September 29, 2018 for 13 episodes adapted the first 4 volumes.

Aniplex will screen the OVA in US and Canada before the second season based on Cells at Work! Code Black premieres.
