In/Spectre also known as Kyokou Suiri is a supernatural thriller anime set to air its second season this January. The anime is based on novels written by Kyo Shirodaira and illustrated by Hiro Kiyohara and Chasiba Katase. The novels started serialization in 2011 and currently have 6 volumes in the market. A manga adaptation by Chasiba Katase is published in Kodansha’s Monthly Magazine.

Studio Brain Base again animating the anime adaptation with Keiji Gotoh serving as the series director. Noboru Takagi is reprising his role as the script writer with Akihiro Manabe returning as the music composer. However, Kentarou Matsumoto is replacing Takatoshi Honda as character designer and chief animation director.

Episode 1 of In/Spectre Season 2 is set to premiere on January 9, 2023, at 12:00 AM JST and is confirmed to run for 12 episodes with a new one airing every Monday. Crunchyroll is streaming the series outside of Japan on a weekly schedule and VIZ is handling the home video release in the US.

What will happen in the In/Spectre (Kyokou Suiri) Season 2?

The second season of In/Spectre will begin right from where we left off in the previous season adapting the eighth volume in the series. Kodansha USA describes the contents of volume 8 as such:

“Totomizu was a flourishing little seaside tourist town until, suddenly, thousands of dead fish started washing up on shore. No one knows what’s causing it—no one, that is, but the spectres. They say a strange wooden doll is behind this unnatural phenomenon. Can Kotoko solve the mystery and save the town?”

Where to Watch Online?

If you are currently residing in Japan then you can easily watch the show on the local channels including Tokyo MX and BS-NTV. The episodes will be also available on online streaming services platforms like Netflix Japan, AbemaTv and dAnimeStore.

Outside of Japan, Crunchyroll stream the latest episodes just a few hours after the Japanese broadcast. The episodes at first will be available in Japanese dub with multiple subtitles options to choose from and the English dub and other localised dubs will be added later.

Both Muse Asia and Bilibili Global have licensed the show for their Subscribers from the South-East Asia region.

Plot of the Anime

When she was still just a girl, Kotoko was kidnapped by yokai. These spirits made her into a powerful intermediary between the spirit and human worlds, but this power came at a price: an eye and a leg. Now, years later, she watches out for dangerous yokai while developing feelings for a young man named Kuro, who is also special: an incident with a yokai has given him healing powers.
