Based on the manga written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki, “The Case Study of Vanitas” also known as “Vanitas no Carte” is a popular Steampunk, Supernatural series centred around the Blood-Sucking legend Vampires. Studio Bones is adapting the acclaimed manga into a 24 episode television anime with Tomoyuki Itamura, best known for his directorial work on Monogotari at Shaft is leading the production as series director.

What happened in previous episode?
Vanitas requests an audience with the queen whom he believes may be dead or no longer exist as she has not been seen for some time. Ruthven explodes in a rage and bans Vanitas from his castle and casts Noé and Vanitas back into the human world, confirming Vanitas’ suspicions. Dante tells Vanitas that a Chasseur, one of the Church’s anti-vampire unit, abducted a curse-bearer which had slipped into Paris and took it into their headquarters in the catacombs.
That night, Noé and Vanitas steal the uniforms of two guards and enter the catacombs through floor of Notre Dame searching for the Chasseurs. They encounter Roland Fortis, who sees through their disguise and traps Vanitas and then blinds Noé with a flash grenade. Fortis injects himself with a green serum and prepares to kill the vampire, Noé.

The Case Study of Vanitas is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki in Square Enix’s Monthly Gangan Joker magazine since December 2015. The series has been collected in 8 compiled volumes so far and is still ongoing. An anime adaptation by Bones premiered in July 2021.
The story takes place during Nineteenth-century France, where humans and vampires coexist. The young vampire Noé is travelling to Paris in search of The Book of Vanitas, a book said to be capable of unleashing a curse upon all vampires.
On an airship towards Paris, he finds himself embroiled in a strange incident. Amidst the chaos, Vanitas, a human doctor who claims to be a vampire expert, appears before Noé. In Vanitas’s hands is the very book that Noé has been searching for—The Book of Vanitas. Following this encounter, the curtain is set to rise on this vampiric tale of curses, and salvation.
