Love Flops Season 2 Release Date: Renewal Possibility, Trailer, Countdown and More

Love Flops Season 2 is the anticipated sequel of the popular action, romance anime which first premiered in the Fall of 2022. It has been a year since the first season ended and the viewers are still wondering if it will get a new season or not.

So here’s everything we know so far regarding whether or not Love Flops Season 2 will happen in 2023, as well as the likely release date.

The Japanese anime Love Flops also known as “Renai Flops” in Japanese is an original anime production by Kadokawa Corporation, the largest light novel publisher in Japan.

The story follows Ittoki Sakuraba who was living a very normal life until one day an assassination attempt is made on him and he finds out he is the descendant of and rightful heir to the Iga Ninja clan. Ninjutsu Gakuen, the only national ninja school in Japan, to study and train as a ninja while investigations are being made to discover who is trying to kill him.

Studio Passione animated the series officially running for 12 episodes from October 12, 2022, to December 28, 2022, on various local networks in Japan.

HIDIVE streamed the anime outside of Japan with both sub and dub, and it received a positive reception from viewers and critics alike. What started as the most trashy rom-com ended up becoming a beautiful tale of coping with the loss of a cherished individual, with its insane plot twist.

Love Flops Season 2 Release Date and Countdown

Love Flops Season 2 Release Date and Countdown

As of May 2023, Love Flops Season 2 doesn’t have a release date as it is not confirmed yet. However, if a new season is confirmed, it will likely air sometime in mid-2024 or late-2024.

This is cause the first season premiered from October 2022 to December 2022 and it typically takes around 1-2 years to produce a new season.

As of now, no official announcements have been made yet, hence the readers need to keep in mind that these are just speculations.

But, keep an eye out for this space as we will update it as soon as something official is announced. We can expect the announcement in the next few months.

Renai Flops Season 2 Countdown:

Based on the following information, here is the countdown to the premiere of Renai Flops’s second season.

Love Flops Season 2 Renewal Status: Confirmed or Cancelled

As of writing, Studio Passione, the producer Kadokawa, or any other member of the production committee member has not officially renewed the anime for a second season.

A lot of anime manage to get a new season right after the season finale but unfortunately, Renai Flops wasn’t one of them.

Love Flops Season 2Yet to be announced

Production Studios consider various financial and commercial metrics before announcing a renewal and it is possible to speculate whether an anime will get a new season or not by carefully evaluating these three factors:

  • Availability of source material
  • Sales
  • Popularity

I have used the same method for Eminence in Shadow, Takagi-san, Welcome to Demon-School Iruma-kun and World Trigger and so far it has proven to work.

So now we will examine these factors to see if Love Flops anime will get a sequel or not.

Is there enough source material available for Love Flops Season 2?

Love Flops Season 2 Source Material status: since its an original anime we can easily create more material for next season
Love Flops Season 2 Source Material status: since its an original anime we can easily create more material for next season

There are two main types of anime when it comes to source material: those based on existing material like manga, light novels or video games, and those that are completely original. Code Geass, Darling in the Franxx, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Kill la Kill, FLCL, and Cowboy Bebop are popular examples of original anime.

One of the key advantages of producing original anime is that it doesn’t rely on the availability of source material in order to continue. If an original anime can generate enough profit, it can easily be greenlit for a second season, as long as the staff members are willing to return.

Recent examples of successful original anime include Lycoris Recoil and SK8 the Infinity, which were renewed for a sequel project after a successful run.

Original anime projects also provide creators with enough flexibility to bring back series that had concluded, such as Code Geass which is getting a new anime sequel despite its original controversial ending (which was changed in the alternative reality movie Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection) and the Rebuild of Evangelion which brings back our favourite depressed and traumatized characters from the original series with a new teenage pilot and more christen etymology.

In conclusion with Original anime, you don’t have to worry about source material which is good news for the fans of Love Flops.

Conclusion: Lack of source material shouldn’t be a problem for the series. Now we can only hope that the anime managed to make its money back.

If it has, chances are high that it will be renewed in the next year or so. Let’s see how the series is performing in terms of profitability.

Sales and Profitability

Love Flo[s anime sales and profit

Before we proceed, it’s important to understand that most of the anime we watch today are created primarily to promote and boost the sales of its source material. However, since Shinobi no Ittoki doesn’t have any sort of source material to promote, the success of the anime will be totally dependent on the Blu-ray sales and revenue from licensing.

So let’s take a look at Blu-ray sales.

While Blu-rays and DVDs are no longer key players in determining anime success as they used to be back in the 2010s, they are still a great tool to understand a show’s popularity among the general Japanese audience. In general, if an anime’s disc sales are over 3,000, a second season would be promising.

As for Love Flops, the situation doesn’t look good.

The sales numbers for the first Blu-ray/DVD volume of Love Flops were so low that it failed to even make it to Oricon’s Top 20 general category, selling below 200 copies.

However, it’s important to note that Blu-ray sales are no longer the only measure of a show’s success, as streaming fees have become a more significant factor in the industry.

Conclusion: Based on the sales numbers, it appears that the Love Flops anime failed to generate a profit for its producers through the home video release, which is not a promising sign for the show’s future.

However, it is possible that the show managed to recoup its production costs through licensing fees and merchandise sales, so there may still be hope for its continuation.

Love Flops‘s Popularity in Japan and the West

The anime “Love Flops” gained significant popularity in Japan, attracting numerous harem anime fans with its stunning character designs of the female cast. Moreover, the inclusion of exceptional fanservice garnered a large following. However, it was the mind-blowing plot twist in the second half of the series that generated the most excitement.

Furthermore following the anime’s successful run, a manga adaptation was approved, which is uncommon as anime are adapted the manga, not the other way around.

The manga adaptation by Yūdai Ishizaka started serialization in Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine in June 2022. Ishizaka is renowned as the creator of the “Iwa-Kakeru! Climbing Girls” rock climbing manga series.

The debut run of Renai Flops anime also received a positive reception from fans in the West and managed to get a localised English dub too and a home video release by Sentai Filmworks

The series has garnered positive reviews from viewers around the world, earning a decent score of 6.7 on MyAnimeList and ranking at #1793 in popularity, but with a large following of more than 110k members in its MAL group beating Shinobi no Ittoki, another original anime which aired alongside in ratings and popularity.

It has also received an average score of 6.1/10 on IMDb and a 65% approval rating on AniList. This shows that the show’s popularity is very high even though it is a young series.

In conclusion, the series gained a significant following in both Japan and the West and generated a ton of revenue from merchandise sales, indicating that it has a strong and loyal fanbase.

With no trouble with expanding source material and the potential to make even more sales, it is inevitable that Love Flops Season 2 will be announced soon. It is no longer a question of if it will get a new season, but when it will get a new season.

Final Words !!

In summary, there is a good chance that Love Flops Season 2 will happen. If that is the case, we should hear some news about it this year. But don’t expect the release date for the second season to be before 2024 since it takes time for a new season to be animated.

I will update the article next month if something has changed. In the meantime so you can check the same analysis I have done for other series:
